My View:
What a great YA novel – I wish there had been books like this around when I was a kid! This is an interesting mix of history, the mechanisations of law and how courts are run and some great social commentary mixed into a crime novel that any 10-12 year (I am guessing the age group here) would love to read. John Grisham is amazing – author of twenty seven novels including this YA series! The Fugitive is the 5th novel in the Theodore Boone series and yet can easily be read as a standalone without feeling that you have missed out on major parts of the story.
If this hasn’t already been recorded as an audio book – it should be – a great one for the kids to listen to on long trips. A suggestion John Grisham – next YA series – can we have a female protagonist?
Reading, Writing and Riesling 
I think some absolutely great YA books are coming out these days, Carol. I think it’s a great thing, and not just for young readers. Of course, anyone who does write a book that makes young people want to read is doing a real public service, as I see it.
Margot I have read some great YA lately – read Night Owls aka My Anatomical Heart Jenn Bennett – brilliant! But not released ere til October so you will have to wait for that review. I do find YA harder to review — especially when I just love the book, when they just “feel right” – so different to reviewing crime fiction I feel…
Hmm… I can’t remember if he’s had female protagonists in any of his adult books? I know there’s quite often good female characters but usually as supporting roles. Though I definitely haven’t read them all, so maybe he has. Although he’s incredibly successful, I always feel he’s still under-rated – for some reason there seems to be a bit of snobbery against his books. Never understood why myself…
This is a great little book and I assume the rest of the series is just as well written. I would like to see some stronger female roles though in his books- he could pull that off I think. Maybe start a new series. I read quite a few of his adult books- years ago but nothing lately.
I have to admit I didn’t know he had a new novel out, but guess I skim the YA sections of listings. Glad you enjoyed it. I have to admit I stopped reading his work after Calico Joe. I know there was a warning up front that it was different, but it was one of my first DNFs!
