Where Are You, Blue?

(Part of Dot Town)
Illustrated by: Holly Clifton-Brown
For Ages: 1 – 4

When Blue Dot is running late, his whereabouts get caught up in a hilarious chain of miscommunication.

“Okay! Blue Dot is on his way.”
“What? Blue Dot has joined the ballet?”
“Wait no—he said he’d be here soon.”
“Why did Blue Dot go to the moon?”

Blue Dot is late for dinner, and one misheard statement leads to a string of rumors about where he could be. Did he move out of town? Has he become a circus clown? Why is he delayed? Did he join a parade? It’s a classic game of telephone gone awry.

Readers young and old will love sharing this sturdy board book filled with rhyming text and dots who are as vibrant in color as they are in character.

My View:

Fun, cute, lovely rhyming silly prose that kids are bound to love.

Great to read out loud with you little one embellishing the silliness as you go 🙂

My grandson loves this -this is a durable cardboard book that he will get enjoyment for for a long time as his development continues to grows and his appreciation of books grows too…a book to enjoy the pretty bright pictures for the 4-6 month old and later to be to read to on grandmamma’s knee…

My View:

As those who regularly read my blog will know I have recently become a first time grandmamma. It is a delightful time in my life – I am loving being part of my grandson’s life. He is currently 9 weeks old and already I am planning the books I will start reading to him (this week reading starts) and I am planning the foods I am going to make for him when he starts on solids.

I am very keen to ensure that his healthy start to life continues by making him fresh, interesting, organic, nutritious meals free from artificial colourings, flavourings, and preservatives or salt. The recipes here are for meals that both you and your baby (who has started to try solids) can enjoy.  Simple yet tasty meals – like pumpkin risotto, potato pancakes, fritters with sweet potato and ricotta… beef and mushroom ragu with pasta…

The book is beautifully presented – each recipe is accompanied by a full sized image of the meal on the opposite page; you can sit and “read” this book with your child   – a fun kind of food “Show and Tell, a great way to help develop language or you can just make and enjoy.  This book is a great tool for first time grandparents’ and parents alike.

I Am Doodle Cat and I am one very proud drawing. I’m red like a really ripe tomato. Sometimes I find it hard to choose between dancing and clawing the rug so I just do both at the same time. I make long lists of the things I love because it’s important to remember what makes you happy. I’ll help you spot the magic in silliness and the greatness in pretty much everything. Also, my best friend is a pangolin. Let’s be pals.

My View:

Vibrant, fun and inclusive – this children’s book has a lot to offer.

“I am Doodle Cat is a children’s’ book here to encourage imagination, celebration of all things you love, and finding the magic in silliness.” (Scribe Publications).

The vibrant red Doodle Cat is a fan of so many things that children adore including: making noise, dancing, ice cream, farts, friends, trees, lentils, and his onesie. (I love the illustration that goes with the declaration, “I Love my Onesie”). Read aloud to your toddler or perhaps read with your pre-schooler – so much fun and many opportunities for discussion.  In the last pages Doodle Cat states – “I am Doodle Cat, I love me!” And asks “What do you love?”  “It’s very important to love you. Because really you are pretty great…” (What a great way to boost/build self-esteem)   The last few pages have more of these helpful ways to begin discussions with your child, for example “I Love Fractals – A fractal is a…..” or “I love difference – Difference keeps us interesting….” helpful hints for grandparents, parents and teachers alike! Children will just love it for the fun and the playfulness.

I love Doodle Cat, I am sure you will too!
