A warm and whimsical guide to negotiating life’s little moments and big emotions with empathy, kindness and words from the heart.

From award-winning and much-loved author Davina Bell and exciting new illustrator, Hilary Jean Tapper.

My View:

Contemporary children’s books are delightful, whimsical and in this so helpful too. I don’t think this is a book for children. This is a book for adults and children. This is a book of prompts for when you are lost for words, when you have big feelings…when you aren’t feeling brave, or you are feeling sorry…happens to adults too…and sometimes just saying or hearing these words will help us out the next time we are in a situation when words escape us, when we don’t have previous experience to call upon.

A beautiful book. Put this one on your Christmas or any other occasion list. Actually, don’t wait for an “occasion” – gift this to yourself now. Or to your children’s classroom or library.

‘The Go-Away bird sat up in her nest,

With her fine grey wings and her fine grey crest.’

The Go-Away Bird combines brilliant rhyming verse from much-loved children’s author Julia Donaldson, creator of the bestselling picture books The Gruffalo and What the Ladybird Heard, with stunning illustrations from the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal-winning Catherine Rayner. A charming story about the power of friendship from a thrilling creative partnership, this beautiful book is perfect for reading together.

My View:

This must be the best rhyming children book I have come across (yes its prose really does rhyme, and rhyme well, not awkwardly as some children’s books do).  The story has a beautiful message; read out loud, enjoy the language, the rhythm and as you turn the pages experience the delightful art. I am in awe of the illustrations.

A gorgeous book.

My View:

What a delightful collection of short stories, poems, rhymes and beautiful illustrations. This is a fantastic book to share with the young children in your life (or for you to take a moment, sit, be and enjoy; relax and let your imagination roam free). This hardback edition is beautifully presented – colourful imaginative illustrations, enchanting prose and this edition includes a bonus CD featuring a special compilation of Hush music compositions – which I am listening to as I write this review – it is very very relaxing.

I think a colouring- in book (for adult and children to share) based on this collection should be the next thing on the list 🙂

This is an extract from ‘I am the Small Green Pea’ by Stephen Michael King and Glenda Millard from The Hush Treasure Book, published by Allen & Unwin, it is my favourite in this collection.

“I am the small green pea
you are the tender pod
hold me

I am the diving kite
you are the bow-tied tail
steady me

I am the drifting boat
you are the quiet deep
buoy me….”
